Music

Music is part of our Monday homeschool program in Lakewood Ranch. Led by Ms. Alicia, who has years of experience teaching family music classes, private lessons and school enrichment. The youngest learners explore rhythm and movement, and by K/1 students are reading music and playing full songs.

Full songs on a one-string guitar

K/1 students play a one-string guitar with a smaller neck sized for their hands. They learn the parts of the guitar, how to hold and strum it and how to build note progressions, and they are already playing full songs.

How it grows with your child

Mommy & Me + PreK

Rhythmic patterns and bodily movement through bouncing games, finger games, scarves, rhythm sticks, instruments and props for each song.

K/1

Music theory and learning to read music, plus the one-string guitar: a smaller neck sized for young hands that teaches the same principles as a six-string. Students learn the parts of the guitar, how to hold and strum it and how to play note progressions, and they are already playing full songs.

How it connects

Making music as a group teaches listening, patience and taking turns, the same habits that make a good leader.
