Autumn Songs and Partner Games for Early Elementary

In the kindergarten and first-grade music room, the morning begins with active movement to the melody Go Round the Mountain. Children follow the tune while building body awareness through guided physical motions.
Counting practice follows with Five Perfect Pumpkins, where students pair counting with lively hand and body movements. The seasonal theme continues through the Apple Tree song. Children stretch tall on tiptoes to reach high into imaginary branches holding two smiling red apples. Together, they shake the branches with all their might until the fruit tumbles down for a tasty pretend treat.
A partner hand game brings everyone together for rhythm and teamwork. Paired students clap to a shared rhyme about an apple tree and time their motions as imaginary apples drop, building coordination and cooperation with their partners.
Floating Leaves and Rhythm Sticks
Lightweight fabric scarves turn the room into an autumn canopy. Gathering the colorful cloth into small bundles, the children raise their hands high like branches to hold little leaves in the trees. As pretend gusts blow fast and slow, the leaves let go and drift through the air.
Percussion practice starts with wooden rhythm sticks during the song Ram Sam Sam. Students tap steady beats along with the tune before concluding their session by strumming beginner Tinker Tar instruments.
Balancing and Pretend Cooking with the Littlest Learners
In the baby and toddler class, the youngest learners practice physical balance to the song Mother and Father and Uncle John. Gentle swaying and balancing motions help little ones practice crossing the midline and developing coordination.
The toddlers also roll their hands to Five Perfect Pumpkins and identify body parts during their own round of Go Round the Mountain. After stretching high for the Apple Tree song, the children wave bright scarves overhead to create floating leaves and dance to the song Falling Leaves.
Rhythm sticks become giant wooden spoons for pretend cooking. Sitting together, the toddlers stir a large pot of imaginary soup, tossing in a playful mix of vanilla, chocolate, Cheerios, seaweed, and croissants. The lively morning finishes with fresh dance steps to Zoom Golly Golly, setting the stage for an upcoming Halloween-themed music session.
Joyful Music Across the Grades
These joyful experiences are part of the broader music program at Mindful Leaders Academy, where small Monday cohorts in Lakewood Ranch take part in hands-on learning from birth through middle school. Families interested in learning more about the academy can book a tour.
