Exploring Buoyancy in Early Primary
This week, our Super STEM students have been very busy exploring the scientific process. In Pre-K through first grade, we studied buoyancy by making predictions, observations, and conclusions. Our young learners applied critical thinking, counting, and fine motor skills to construct foil boats and count how many pennies our boats could hold without sinking.
Investigating Milk Plastics in Elementary
In grades two through five, we continued our preparations for the upcoming science fair. This week, we experimented on how different types of milk can be used to make plastic. We relied on qualitative observations to help us make valid conclusions about our baseline, which was whole milk. Next week, we will expand our experiment by introducing the variable of milk type.
Testing Crystals and Engineering in Middle School
In grades six through eight, we also worked on our science fair projects. We formed conclusions about which solution forms the best crystals by using qualitative observations and the CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) approach. In addition, we gathered quantitative data by analyzing boat structure, weight load, and buoyancy.
Thinking Like Scientists
Watching our students test ideas, gather data, and form clear conclusions is always inspiring. It is always a great day to think like a scientist at Mindful Leaders Academy.
